Welcome to Fort Hays State
University! On behalf of the Student Affairs team, I would
like to welcome you to FHSU.
As a Tiger, you will have the opportunity to
experience many new adventures, from learning exciting and
relevant information in your classes, to bonding with new
roommates in the residence halls, to cheering on the home
team at Tiger sporting events, to spreading your wings in
leadership positions across campus. Student Affairs staff
members stand ready to help you with any questions you may
have along your collegiate journey. We strongly encourage
you to do more than just attend FHSU. We invite you to live
the experience, to get involved in activities and leadership,
to really make the most of what Fort Hays State University
has to offer you.
There are a number of areas in the Student Affairs
Division that are instrumental in providing student involvement
and leadership opportunities. Under the umbrella of Student
Life are the Memorial Union, Student Activities and Special
Events, University Activities Board, Greek Life, Student Organizations,
International and Disabled Student Services, Student Publications,
Diversity Affairs, Residential Life, Student Government Association,
and Tiger Tots Nurtury Center. These services and opportunities
provide a practical, educational, and social environment as
a continuation of and compliment to the classroom experience.
By seizing the opportunities provided by these
areas, you can learn from accomplished faculty, take advantage
of the latest technology, participate in a broad range of
multicultural experiences that will help you live and work
with people whose backgrounds are different from yours, and
acquire the knowledge and skills for a career or post-graduate
study. You also will have the opportunity to learn about yourself
through introductions to different ways of thinking, new experiences,
and interactions with students and faculty of varying backgrounds
and heritages.
I wish you a rewarding and successful school
year. Please feel free to call on me or any of the staff members
in the Division of Student Affairs for assistance or more
information. We look forward to getting to know you.
With a warm welcome,
Shana L. Meyer
Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs
