Mission

The Stroke Recovery Research and Wellness Center (SRRWC) exists to improve the health and function of stroke survivors and clients with functional limitations related to neurological deficits. The Center also provides health screening and stroke risk reduction, education to the citizens of Western Kansas.

Purpose

The SRRWC provides continued care for eligible participants not fully served by rehabilitation services because of functional or financial limitations. Through provision of these services, stroke recovery protocols will be evaluated and students in the FHSU Departments of HHP, Nursing, and Allied Health. The SRRWC provides applicable experience in a healthcare setting.

Goals & Objectives

The program allows stroke survivors to perform individualized exercise in safe and supportive environment. Through participation in this program stroke survivors will be able to:

  1. Improve cardiovascular fitness
  2. Improve metabolic fitness
  3. Improve health status
  4. Improve balance and gait
  5. Increase strength
  6. Increase capacity to perform daily activity
  7. Provide social interaction and support among stroke survivors and caregivers
