Do you love to learn? Do you have a passion for helping others learn? Have you been inspired by great teachers in your life, and do you now want to make that sort of difference in someone else’s life?

Perhaps you’ve always known you wanted to be a teacher. Perhaps you’re considering a teaching career for the first time in your life. Whether you see yourself teaching pre-schoolers or seniors, reading or high school biology, discover how the Teacher Education program at Fort Hays State University is the perfect fit for you.

Here are a few reasons to consider FHSU:

  • Find your dream job.; With a 96% placement rate, our graduates are in high demand throughout Kansas and beyond.
  • Enjoy small classes and personal attention from faculty. You will find that faculty members don’t just know your name, they get to know you as a person – your goals, dreams and interests – and mentor you throughout your degree program.  Lacey from Palco, Kansas comments: "Just wanted to give credit where credit is due: I recently found out my score for my Elementary Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment test to become licensed, and I scored very well on the math!  I want to say, “Thank you” from the bottom of my heart for preparing me so well in this content area.  This test is a direct reflection of the long hours of phenomenal instruction you prepared and delivered to your students.  No amount of money could ever buy the knowledge that has been poured into my brain, and for that I give you two thumbs up!"
  • Focus on technology. Learn how to apply cutting-edge and emerging technologies in instructional settings. Not only will you be ready to teach in the classroom, but you can emerge as a leader in your professional setting
  • Take advantage of the honor’s program, the unique K-6 adaptive special education minor  program, the Transition to Teaching alternative licensure program, and other programs that will prepare you to teach.
  • Benefit from hands-on experiences in local schools early on in your program, which helps you determine if teaching is the right career for you.
  • Spend an entire semester student teaching under a mentor teacher, gaining valuable on-the-job training and preparing you to be an effective teacher once you graduate.
  • Take advantage of the TEACH Grant. The new Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant program provides up to $4,000 per year in grants for graduate and undergraduate students who intend to teach full-time in high-need subject areas for at least four years at schools that serve students from low-income families.
