Title of Lesson: Bear Addition
Topic: process-concepts, product-number operations, process-using numbers,
product-facts about bears
Student Level: kindergarten
Objective: The students will use bear manipulatives to help figure out addition problems by doing worksheet.
Materials: 5 sets of bear cards, worksheet
Prerequisite skills: Facts about bears
Time Required: 20-25 minutes
Introduction: We will first discuss the facts learned yesterday about bears, such as what they eat, where they live, if they are mammals, and what features they possess, like have hair and bear cubs.
Review: The teacher will review the student's prior knowledge on how to count to ten using the bear cards.
Strategies: *First we will hand out the bear cards
*Then put addition problems on board
*Allow students to use bear cards to figure problems out orally
*After several problems have been discussed as a group, pass out the
bear worksheet to reinforce addition
Conclusion: Go over the worksheet as a whole group and ask students if the bears were useful when doing addition problems and worksheet
Evaluation: Observe student's understanding of addition orally by using the bears and by completion and accuracy of the worksheet
*Make bear calendar using bear stickers to mark off days
