KANOPARDY
Title: Kansas Jeopardy
Grade Level: 4th Grade
Unit Topic: History and Geography of our State
Rationale: This game will reinforce the students' knowledge
of the history and geography of our state.
Materials: question board, dry erase/small chalk boards
Instructions: 1. Divide the class into three teams.
2. Each team will choose a name that relates to Kansas.
- Next each team will take turns choosing a question from one
of the categories.
- Once the question has been asked the team who raises
their hand first will have thirty seconds to answer. If they
answer the question correctly then they have control of the board.
If they answer incorrectly then the team who had control of the
board last will choose another question. In the event that the
first question is answered incorrectly the team that starts will
choose the next question.
- If no one knows the answer, then the teacher will reveal
the answer.
- If a student picks a space that contains a daily
double they are allowed to wager as much, but no more than their
total winnings. (They are the only person allowed to answer the
question.)
- The game will continue as listed above until all
the questions have been answered.
- When all of the questions have been answered the
students will move on to the
bonus round.
- They will be given a category and will have thirty
seconds to wager their bet. (Their bet cannot exceed the total
amount of money they have already won.)
- Then they will be given the question and will have
one minute to gather a response. They will be awarded the money
they wagered for a correct response.
- The team with the most money at the end of the final round
will be the winners.
Variations:
- The game can be as long or as short as desired. (You could
place a time limit on it and all questions at the end of the
time limit are simply left unanswered.)
- This game can be used across the curriculum at many grade
levels.
