PROJECTS
Math
Two students will split a deck of playing cards. Each student
will lay down a card. The first student to multiply the two numbers
correctly receives the two cards. The students can continue the
game until one student collects all of the cards or for a specified
amount of time. Make sure the students are equally matched according
to their multiplication skills. Note: All of the face cards are
11's and the ace's are 1's.
Students will get together in pairs. One student will show
the flash cards to the other student. This activity will provide
the students with extra practice in multiplication.
Science
Each student will receive a copy of the medicine word problem
worksheet. Each problem on the worksheet involves the multiplication
of dosages of medicine. After completing the worksheet the class
will discuss the different problems together.
Each student will be given a copy of the array worksheet.
The worksheet will contain different arrays that are set up with
bugs and insects. The students will multiply the number of bugs
or insects in the array. The students will then go on to figure
out the number of legs in each of the arrays.
Language Arts
Read the story Bunches & Bunches of Bunnies to the class.
After reading the story discuss how multiplication was involved
in the story.
After reading the story provide the children with paper and
pencils. Have each student write his or her own story containing
multiplication.
Art
Each student will be given a color by product worksheet.
The worksheet will contain a picture. The picture will be broken
into many different sections. In each section there will be a
multiplication problem. After figuring the product the student
will color in the picture with the matching color. This will
give the student a chance to multiply while at the same time
working on art.
Each student will be given a dot-to-dot with products worksheet.
On the worksheet there will be several points. At each point
there will be a multiplication problem. The students will figure
out each problem and then connect the dots. They will start with
the problem that's product was one and then count up.
Music
Each student will be given a page containing the lyrics for
music times facts. After first reading over the lyrics and introducing
the song the class will sing the song together.
Each student will be given a page containing the lyrics for
the schoolhouse rock song for the multiplication of three. They
will read over the words, go over the music and then sing the
song.
CULMINATING ACTIVITIES
Each student will construct a story problem. The problem
must include multiplication. It should be written nicely and
should relate to some everyday activity. A picture can be included
if it will help.
Students will be separated into groups of five. Each group
will create a game that helps practice multiplication.
EVALUATION: Students will be evaluated on:
Their ability to cooperate with a partner.
Their completion of all assigned activities.
Their journal entry, meeting the requirements stated.
Their construction of a story problem meeting the stated
criteria.
Their cooperation with the final group, and the completion
of a multiplication game for multiplication practice.
