Title of lesson- Scaling the Solar System
Topic-the planet's orbital path
Student level-3rd
Objective-The student will state a fact about their planet and know the correct placement of their planet in relationship to the other planets.
Materials-box of symbolized planets
Prerequisite skill- Each student will need to know one fact about their planet, and be able to line the planets up in order according to their placement in the solar system.
Time Required-45 minutes
Introduction-Hand out the cards with planets names and get in partners designated.
Review- The placement of each planet and facts about each one.
Strategies-*Discuss the cards given and have the students prepare one fact each about their planet. Line up single file line according to where your planet is in the solar system. *Have each group quess what object hey will be using to represent their planet. *Go in hall and have kids place their planet down on markers and say their fact to the class. * Discuss that each planet is really a lot farther apart than the markers, but this is a close representation of how far apart they are.
Conclusion-Assess as giving facts and if are paying attention to the other students talking.
