March,
2005: Denver, CO - DOOR |
|
 |
To coordinate the 2005 Alternative Spring
Break, Tigers In Service teamed up with Denver’s DOOR
(Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection) program.
DOOR works with approximately 40 different agencies in the Denver
metro area. Through volunteering and working with the underprivileged
of the city, it is DOOR's goal to help youth to begin to humanize
the people that they come in contact with. For more information
about DOOR, visit their website at www.citymissions.org. |
| During the trip, eight FHSU students performed
service activities for seven different community agencies in
Denver. The service concentrated on community issues such as
hunger, poverty, homelessness and youth. The students volunteered
in soup kitchens, food banks and homeless shelters for women
and children. The community service was performed during the
morning and afternoon of each day, which was followed by a reflection
period each evening. The reflection component of the trip enabled
the students to gain further understanding of the community
issues and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility. Tigers
In Service will continue its commitment to volunteerism by offering
Alternative Spring Break opportunities each year. |
