Food For Thought (2006)
Food for Thought was a new project this year, and a great cause to recognize on Make a Difference Day. Tigers In Service partnered with a Leadership 310 team that is currently working on the project. Food for Thought, a new program coordinated by the Hays Head Start program, works to provide nutritious snacks to seven families in Hays with malnourished children. Volunteers passed out “grocery lists” to shoppers entering Wal-Mart in hope that they would pick up a few extra items for the children in need of this food. Ten volunteers participated and helped raise over $120, also receiving 76.2 lbs of nutritious food. Volunteers noted that many people were surprised regarding the statistics of malnutrition in Hays. Volunteers helped provide food for children in the Hays community as well as increase awareness of the issue.
