This student-run program is designed to match volunteers with service opportunities in the Hays area. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the Center for Civic Leadership, and the Office of Student Affairs, Tigers in Service is a clearinghouse for students with a desire to participate in community service activities.

Program History

Tigers In Service began in 2002 as a collaboration of the Center for Civic Leadership, Student Government Association, and the Office of Student Affairs. Over the past three years, the programming of Tigers In Service has evolved to include not only cataloguing service opportunities and referring students, but to coordinating national days of service, alternative breaks, and much more. Tigers In Service has become synonymous with volunteerism at FHSU, providing students a convenient way to get more involved in community service, whether it be individually or through a student organization.
In the last three years, Tigers In Service has grown

exponentially. The program, which began with 9 volunteers, has expanded to include more than 1,300 FHSU students in the 2006-2007 school year, completing more than 4,200 hours of service in the Hays community and around the nation. The students of Fort Hays State University have made their commitment to service clear by being the top resource for volunteers for many community agencies.

Tigers In Service has been nationally recognized for their efforts on Make A Difference Day. They have received an award and were featured in USA Weekend Magazine in 2004, 2005, and 2007.

An increasing number of student organizations are answering the call to serve. Tigers In Service can make it easy to schedule your next service project, or create a tailor-made year-long service plan for your organization by pairing your team with service opportunities that will fit your needs.
