Spring Day of Sharing
To Encourage Collaboration among Kansas Higher Education Institutions
Wednesday, March 7, 2007
K-State Salina
The Spring Day of Sharing is a new initiative sponsored by the Center for Civic Leadership and Kansas Campus Compact. This initiative is designed to provide Regent Institutions, community colleges, and technical institutions with an opportunity to meet at K-State Salina in order to discuss community service programs, projects and components. This meeting will provide contacts throughout the state, which will assist in collaboration and encourage possibilities for statewide service opportunities. In addition, institutions will have an opportunity to share ideas and to network as well as discuss a variety of service projects and receive feedback on their ideas.
Today a greater emphasis is being placed on community service and volunteering. It is imperative to a student’s education to be involved in serving others and one’s community. The Spring Day of Sharing will provide an opportunity for institutions to gain new and innovative ideas as well as share best practices in recruiting and retaining volunteers. All Kansas higher education institutions are encouraged to attend, with representatives of the community service activities on their individual campuses. The most centralized location is K-State Salina and the event will take place on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 from 1-4 p.m. This event will also give each campus an opportunity to present about community service at their respective institutions.
The Center for Civic Leadership (CCL) and Kansas Compact will serve as the primary sponsors of this event. The Center for Civic Leadership is an outreach division of Fort Hays State University’s Department of Leadership Studies. The Center for Civic Leadership encompasses six programs including: the Kansas Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA), Service-Learning, Leadership Education And Development (LEAD), The American Democracy Project (ADP), Tigers in Service, and Leadership Papers. CCL provides high quality educational programs and initiatives designed to enhance civic leadership capabilities among participants.
Kansas Campus Compact is a growing coalition of 15 college and university presidents established to encourage and support campus engagement in the community. Through innovative student, faculty and institutional participation in service, higher education can meet its public trust to inspire an active, responsible and committed citizenry while helping to solve society's most pressing needs. Kansas Campus Compact encourages civic discourse and debate, and assists higher education institutions in the creation of partnerships with the community.
