Getting the News out
Submit news items to Kurt Beyers, assistant
director of University Relations, at kbeyers@fhsu.edu,
or use the for available at http://www.fhsu.edu/univrel/news.shtml.
Please make sure the information is complete. Whether you
use the Web form or not, use it as a guide for the information
you need to provide.
Other information that might be pertinent or interesting
should also be included: a paragraph of background information
about your organization and its history or purpose; a quote
or two from someone on the significance of the event; hometowns
and classifications of any students involved; or any special
requests for distribution of the news release. Make sure
that all names are spelled correctly and are in the form
preferred by the owner of the name. Double-check dates,
times and places.
Lastly, allow enough time. University Relations can get information
to local news outlets at almost any time, but if you wait
until the morning of the day the information needs to go
out, your news may fall victim to more urgent priorities.
Anything from three or four days up to two or three weeks
of lead time will be necessary depending on the nature of
the news. If you have any questions about any aspect of
getting your news out, call Beyers at (785) 628-4480 or e-mail
him at the address above.
News Releases
To distinguish news from regular mail, the
university has special stationery for news releases. This
same format
is set up for e-mail news releases.
This
is the only acceptable news release format. In keeping with
the guidelines for secondary
logos, you may
substitute your departmental logo for the Tiger.
Because University Relations is the university's
official media contact, the University Relations information
located at the bottom of the news release letterhead must
not be altered in any way. Specific contact information about
your department is to be included in the body of the individual
news release.
