Other Services provided by University Relations
Promotional Items
Remember that all university-related brochures
(including those for academic departments) should be produced
through our office. We can help you write copy, select artwork,
schedule photography and design the publication (all at no cost
to you). Please allow six weeks for completion and delivery
of a brochure (depending on complexity). Call 4206 or for
help. The Office of University Relations has designed an all-purpose
Fort Hays State University folder for use in assembling packets
of information. The folders can be obtained from the warehouse,
4239. Our office furnishes brochures and other university information
for inclusion in the folders. If your area is hosting a meeting
or you need packets for any reason, call the warehouse and then
us at 4206 and let's decide what kinds of publications fit your
needs.
Magazines and Newsletters
The Office of University Relations produces
four major publications and assists with others.
- TODAY -- This is a monthly (September-May)
internal publication for faculty and staff. Please keep us informed
about your honors and activities so that we can include them
in this publication.
- FOR PARENTS ONLY -- This publication is
mailed to parents of all on-campus, full-time students during
the fall and spring semesters. If you have information
you think parents would want to know, call Kurt Beyers at 4480.
- KEEPING IN TOUCH -- This is a newsletter
for retired faculty. It is published four times a year and
contains
information about retired faculty and news from the university.
If you have an item you would like included, contact Suzanne
Klaus at 5520.
- FHSU MAGAZINE -- This magazine is produced
by the Alumni Association and the Office of University Relations.
It has been highly popular since it was introduced in 1998
as a much-improved upgrade of the former alumni newsletter.
It
is published three times a year and mailed to members of the
Alumni Association with the summer issue being mailed to
all graduates. The publication contains information about
the university, faculty, students and alumni. If you have something
of interest to contribute to the publication, contact us.
Please remember that our office does not
publish The University Leader. Students produce the official
campus newspaper. If you have information for the twice-weekly
paper, call its newsroom at 5301.
Advertising
Historically, the university has done very
little advertising, partly because of budgetary restrictions
and partly
because advertising has not been needed. As competition increases
in the higher education environment, there has been a corresponding
increase in the need to advertise Fort Hays State University.
Advertising funds remain extremely limited, but ideas for advertising
opportunities may be presented to the Office of University
Relations, to the Integrated Marketing Committee or to the Academic
Marketing Specialist, 4090,
who coordinates academic marketing.

Graphic Design
Our office has a full-time graphic
designer who will help you with all of your publication needs.
We offer our part of this service at no cost, but you must pay
for photography and printing. We will help you design your brochures,
flyers, poster, cards, programs, book covers newsletters and
or anything else that will help promote your office or academic
department. Call 4521 to set up an appointment. We have won
awards with our publications.
Photographs
of Faculty and Staff
We need up-to-date photos of you for publicity
purposes. We'll pay for photos of you for our
files. Call 4206 to schedule a sitting. It is important that
we have the photos in our files so that we can respond quickly
to media requests.
Speakers Bureau
Our office is contacted often by the media in
search of faculty who can address issues of interest in the
news, and by groups and organizations in search of speakers.
Each fall we print a listing of "authorities" and
"experts" in certain fields and give that list to
the media and other interested parties. We distribute questionnaires
each fall to collect names of speakers and information about
their areas of expertise. If you wish to be included, please
respond quickly and fully to the questionnaire.
Videos and Visual Aids
The Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning
Technology offers assistance in producing promotional videos
and developing visual aids for presentations. CTELT can be contacted
at 4194. The Office of University Relations can assist you and
CTELT with script writing and distribution.
