Specialist in Education with a major in Educational Administration

Educational Administration: District Leadership (Superintendent)
The Specialist in Education Degree (Educational Administration) with an emphasis in District Leadership (Superintendent) is accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. This 30-33 hour graduate degree program prepares candidates to apply for District Leadership licensure in the state of Kansas as a superintendent or assistant superintendent. The Specialist Degree in Educational Administration (District Leadership - Superintendent) is offered 100% in an on-line format. All credit toward the Specialist in Education Degree must be earned in residence at Fort Hays State University. No courses may be transferred from another university for use on this degree. Prior to applying for admission to this degree, candidates must verify completion of a Master's Degree and provide evidence of an endorsement/license in Building Leadership as a Principal. PLEASE NOTE: The Specialist in Education Degree with an emphasis in District Leadership (Superintendent) is the only content area of study offered for this degree in the Department of Advanced Education Programs.

Collaborative Doctoral Degree with Northcentral University

Doctorate in Education
The Specialist in Education Degree (Educational Administration) with an emphasis in District Leadership (Superintendent) can lead to a doctorate degree through Fort Hays State University's partnership with Northcentral University (NCU) in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Applicants with a FHSU Specialist in Education Degree (Educational Administration) with an emphasis in District Leadership (Superintendent) will receive 48 hours of transfer credit (30 for the Master's Degree plus 18 for the Specialist in Education Degree) toward completion of the NCU doctorate in Education. Candidates must complete 33 hours of NCU credit to meet the requirements for the NCU doctorate. PLEASE NOTE: The collaborative doctorate degree between FHSU and Northcentral University is offered only in the content area of Educational Administration - District Leadership (Superintendent).
 
Degree Requirements for the Education Specialist Degree:
A minimum of 21 semester hours of graduate study shall include some credit in each of the following core areas:
EAC 830  Statistics for Research 3 hours
EDL Educational Issues

EDL 900  History & Philosophy of Education		 3 hours
AEP 932  Research Design and Analysis 3 hours
EDL 951  Advanced Educational Administration 3 hours
EDL 952  Trends and Practices in Educational Administration 3 hours
EDL 955  School Plant 3 hours
AEP 979  Advanced Practicum: Superintendent 3 hours
AEP 999  Field Study 3-6 hours
AEP 875  Seminar in Education II: Special Education for School Leaders 3 hours
Electives: Students and their advisors will select from those graduate level courses needed to complete the 30 hours required for the Specialist Degree.
