Business Writing
Lead Instructor: Dan Kulmala, Associate Professor of English
Business Writing involves the study of the various aspects of business
written communication and composition, including digital and web-based
forms. And like creative writing, business writing requires one to
consider what one does with words and what those words do to a
particular audience. So a good writer of business documents thinks
creatively, critically, and reflectively. This course includes the
following: the application of the principles of written communication
to business letters, reports, and presentations; the development of
rhetorical strategies for effective persuasion; and the enhancement of
developing problem-solving skills in written form. Particular focus
will be paid to new and emerging forms of communication in the business
environment, with strategies on how to compete with and participate
within our new digitized culture.
