Applied Sociology

Coordinator: Dr. Keith Campbell
As our communities and societies become more complex, it is increasingly important that sociological knowledge and skills be used in solving real world problems. There is high demand among local, state, and federal agencies and organizations for intelligent, well-trained individuals with skills in applied sociology.

There are many ways in which applied sociological knowledge and skills are used. For example, sociologists use theory on the community and sociological research knowledge to gauge support for city government activities among various segments of a population. Sociological planning skills can be then employed to implement activities in ways that are most beneficial to a community.

This nine credit hour certificate program offers valuable course work and internship experience to students in applied sociology.

Both series are designed to teach students internetworking skills and to prepare students with the knowledge necessary to pass the CCNA examination.

In each series, delivery is Internet based with text, graphics, illustrations, and streaming audio and video. Students are provided toll-free telephone, email, and chat room assistance from faculty and tutors who have passed the CCNA. Students have the opportunity to practice router configuration on Cisco routers using the Department of Information Networking and Telecommunication's Virtual Lab.

Both options apply toward the Bachelors of Science in Information Networking and Telecommunications with a Concentration in Computer Networking and Telecommunications or the General Studies in Information Networking and Telecommunications.

Students who enhance their studies by taking targeted course work in Network Architecture and Data Communications increase their probability of passing the CCNA examination and enhance their employability.
