Identity theft is the fastest growing crime and college students are identified as one of the highest risk groups for identity theft. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99)is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. However, total prevention is difficult due to the human element involved. This session features a short PQ (Privacy Quotient) Quiz to determine your level of risk in releasing private information. This session deals with responsible information handling as an academic advisor as it relates to appointment scheduling, advising files, and e-mail correspondence.
