Parent Coffee Concerts are informal gatherings of kids, parents, and families to share musical progress with each other. We hope that these casual events will:
- give students a venue for sharing and taking pride in their accomplishments;
- give students a way to “practice” performing in a non-stress situation;
- increase students’ comfort in playing before their peers;
- promote a spirit of encouragement and support among students of all levels and abilities.
Participation and attendance is voluntary. Students sign themselves up if they want to play on a particular month’s recital. They can play all or just part of a piece that they’re working on. Students are asked to limit performance time to no more than 5 minutes each. They can play with, or without, an accompanist. We encourage our very beginning students to participate—perhaps demonstrating a particular skill they’ve mastered. In the spirit of peer support, concert participants are expected to stay for the entire concert.
WKSA will provide coffee and lemonade. Participants’ parents are asked to bring a dozen cookies to share.
