Fees and Payment
Fees for the Western Kansas String Academy music education program are
based on three possible levels of enrollment:
Level I Group Class student—these students meet in group classes twice a
week, but are not required to have a private instructor
Full-time Status—Students in Level II or above are required to take
private lessons on their instrument. If WKSA provides your private lessons
instructor, then you enroll as Full-time status.
Saturday-only status— Students in Level II or above are required to take
private lessons on their instrument. If you have made independent
arrangements for private lessons, then you enroll as Saturday-only.
Fees
Level I Group Class Fees— $300 per year ($165 per semester). Cost
includes the following: Group instruction on chosen instrument,
twice a week, 22 weeks (academic year). Classes are one hour long, and
include instrumental instruction and basic music theory Optional
half-hour music appreciation class on Saturday mornings (20 weeks)
Optional “Practice Partners”—individual help by WKSA advanced student,
by appointment, Saturday mornings Written skills mastery/progress
report provided by instructor once a semester Year-end group
performance concert in Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center
Year-end educational juries for critique and advancement
Musical/Social Activities WKSA t-shirt Student provides own
instrument and music book
Full-Time Status Fees— $300 per year (or $165 per semester). Cost
includes the following: Auditions for orchestra placement
Participation in Level II Group Class, string orchestras, or guitar
ensemble (10-12 rehearsals per semester) 10 private lessons per
semester with an Academy Instructor (Lesson lengths—30 minutes for
Level II Group Class, Beginner String Orchestra, or Guitar Ensemble
students; 45 minutes for Intermediate String Orchestra; 60 minutes for
Advanced string orchestra). Saturday morning
electives—participation in various music appreciation classes or
special ensembles (20 weeks) Community Performances throughout the
year Year-end concert performances in Beach/Schmidt Performing
Arts Center Year-end educational Juries for critique and
advancement Musical / Social Activities WKSA T-shirt
Student provides own instrument, and any music books assigned by
private instructor. Music parts for ensembles are provided by
WKSA.
Saturday-Only Status Fees—$150 per year (or $80 per semester).
Cost includes everything listed above under Full-time status, except
for the private lessons. Private lessons under this status must be
arranged independently by the student, and verified by the student’s
private teacher.
Fee Discounts, Installments, Financial Aid
WKSA fees can be paid by check, money order, or credit card. A minimum
$25 non-refundable deposit is required with the student’s enrollment
application for that semester, and, unless other arrangements are
made, full payment of fees is expected by Registration Day.
Students paying for the entire year receive a discount from the per
semester fee.
Families enrolling two or more students for the entire year (any
status) may deduct 10% from their total family fees.
An optional installment payment plan is available. If you are
interested in this option, please consult a WKSA staff member on
Registration Day.
Financial Assistance is available for those qualified families. Please
fill out a Financial Aid form and submit with Enrollment Application.
