Christopher Johnson
Christopher Johnson is a music education and music composition major who
plays the baritone, tuba, trombone, and sitar. An active part of the musical
community, he has performed with many musical ensembles at Fort Hays State
University, including the Marching Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble,
Trombone Quartet, Low Brass Choir, Brass Choir, Tuba Euphonium Choir,
Concert Choir, Fort Hays Singers, and FHSU Opera, as well as the United
Methodist Chancel Choir, United Methodist Bell Choir, the North Oak Worship
Orchestra, and the Hays Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to his many commitments, Christopher has found time to serve as
a counselor for the High Plains Band Camp and the Hays Children's Music
Camp. To expand his understanding of world music, Christopher traveled to
Kathmandu, Nepal where he learned to play the sitar and studied Indian
music. In 2007, he also went to Taiwan to perform with the Fort Hays
Singers.
Several of Christopher's original musical compositions have been performed
in Hays, and one was selected for performance at the Kansas Music Educators
Association Competition in Wichita.
Christopher enjoys being around young music students, and he believes that
teaching with WKSA is the most enriching way he can prepare for a career in
music education.
