For Instructors
The Writing Center exists for student/consultant sessions for
all academic writing. Students may visit the Center on
their own, or instructors can recommend students who
need help with their academic writing to visit the Center.
Although most of the consultants are English majors,
we do have some consultants who have other majors.
If you know of a student who is a strong writer
in another field and would be interested in working at the
Writing Center
as a consultant, please have him or her contact Dr. Pamela Shaffer
(pshaffer@fhsu.edu).
We are open during the Spring and Fall semesters during the following hours:
Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Fridays from 9:00 to 12:30 p.m.
To schedule appointments, students need to call
628-4106 or stop by FL 20 (in the basement of
Forsyth Library). We do take drop-ins--but only if we're not
already busy with students who made appointments.
Most sessions take 30-45 minutes.
Students may come once, twice, or more often if necessary.
If you would like a consultant to tell your classes about the
Writing Center, please call us.
We have compiled some websites that we consider to have value
for academic writing. Please check out some of these sites and
let us know whether or not they are valuable to your discipline.
Also, please note the disclaimers. If you know of other sites
that are more valuable, please contact us.
Consultants are not proofreaders or editors. The goal is for
the student writers to become their own editors and proofreaders.
Students are responsible for the final product. Please send
a copy of your assignment ahead of time.
One final note: It's a great help to us if you send a copy of your assignment ahead fo time to writingcenter@fhsu.edu.
We'll add it to our "Assignment Notebook."
