1857
Walter Selleck and his twin brother Arthur were born 30 June 1857.
About 1867
Walter Selleck lost most of his hearing due to scarlet fever when he was 10 or 11 years old. In an attempt to reduce the fever, Walter was packed in cold beef liver. Either the effort was too late or it didn't work because Walter was left with a great deal of hearing loss. As an example of how deaf Walter was, his youngest son Walter Beaulou Selleck told his son Steven the following story. One day near Marydell, southeast of Culver, Walter was on the railroad tracks while Walter Beaulou was in a wheat field near the tracks looking at the crop when a train came along. Walter's back was to the train so he did not see the train coming and was so hard of hearing that he did not hear the train. Walter Beaulou said he ran up and shoved his dad off the tracks just before the train would have hit him. That's how deaf he was. (Story from Steven J. Selleck.)
1870
During the time that James and Arthur were on their way to Texas and back, Walter Selleck broke the sod at Lindsay on 160 acres of ground with a one bottom plow and a mule. The quarter section went from Lindsay and south to the road that crosses the Soloman River. (According to Avon Selleck as told to Steven J. Selleck.)
