Dr. Brungardt is the senior member and creator of the Department of Leadership Studies and the co-founder of the Center for Civic Leadership. He specializes in political leadership, social change, and community organizing. Dr. Brungardt is an author and co-author of several books and numerous articles and has presented over 150 workshops throughout the world. However, he is best known as a social entrepreneur creating and developing programs, both inside and outside of academia, that directly impact people's lives.

Jackie serves as the office manager and financial officer for the Center for Civic Leadership and also is the administrative assistant for the Department of Leadership Studies. Jackie comes to the Center after a long, successful career with the local school district in Hays, Kansas.

Jalyn is a junior at Fort Hays State University majoring in Spanish. She is very excited to have the opportunity to be working in the CCL. After Graduation, she plans to continue her education and attend graduate school.

Jaylen is a first year graduate student here at FHSU. She graduated in May 2018 with her Bachelors in Leadership Studies. She is originally from Parker, Colorado. She currently is the assistant varsity coach at TMP in Hays. After completing her masters she hopes to work with at risk youth though a non-profit.

Larry Gould is a former Provost (1998-2013), Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences (1991-1998) and founder and former director of the FHSU Docking Institute, where he remains a Senior Policy Fellow. He was the 1988 recipient of the FHSU Alumni Association’s Pilot Award as the outstanding faculty member of the year. The Hays Chamber of Commerce named him Most Valuable Citizen in 1990 and inducted him into the Chamber’s Hall of Fame in 1996. Previously, he was director of the FHSU Model United Nations Program, Faculty Senate president, and executive assistant to the president. In 2000, he was granted the Pacesetter Award from the National Academic Advising Association. In 2008, he was awarded the William Plater Award by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. One of the few national awards for provosts, the Plater Award recognizes those chief academic officers who have advanced the civic mission of the campus through curricular reform, public advocacy, accountability for institutional citizenship, faculty development and recruitment, and partnerships with community organizations. In 2015, he was named a Kansas Icon of Education. Larry will be the faculty advisor for the American Democracy Project.

Kaytee is a junior at Fort Hays State University majoring in Political Science. In addition to working for the American Democracy Project, Kaytee is involved in the Honors College, Honor Society, and Young Democrats while also serving as a senator in Student Government Association. After graduating, Kaytee hopes to attend graduate school and work in local politics.

Brett Whitaker is a faculty member and administrator in the Department of Leadership Studies at Fort Hays State University (FHSU). Brett completed his Ph.D. in Global Leadership from Indiana Tech in 2015, with his dissertation work focusing on the development of global leadership degree granting programs in higher education. His ongoing research interests include leadership theory, global leadership, higher education, and curricular design.

Alex is a freshman at Fort Hays State University. She is majoring in Organizational Leadership. In addition to working for the Global Leadership Project, Alex is a member of the Political Science club and the College Republicans. After graduation, she hopes to attend Law school and then go on to help women and children in Third World countries.

After graduation she hopes to attend graduate school.

Marisa is a senior at Fort Hays State University and is majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In addition to Tigers in Service, Marisa is involved with the Honors College, Stripes for Hope, Pre-Med Club and Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Marisa is passionate about helping people in their time of need and finding a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. After graduation, Marisa hopes to attend medical school.

Larisa White is a Junior at FHSU, double majoring in Social Work and Organizational Leadership. In addition to Tigers in Service, Larisa is involved with the Orientation and Transition team on campus. Her passion is helping others be the most successful they can be, by helping provide the best resources available. After graduation, Larisa is hoping to go to graduate school for Social Work.

Ms. Brungardt is actively involved in many community projects throughout Ellis County. She serves as the director of the Kansas Women's Leadership Conference and the associated statewide community service project. She serves as a Fellow for the FHSU Center for Civic Leadership and directs the Women's Leadership Project.

In 2009, Christie and her husband Dr. Curt Brungardt created the non-profit organization, Jana's Campaign, to honor their daughter who lost her life the year before. This prevention and education program is aimed specifically at reduced at gender-based violence. http://www.janascampaign.org/.

Christie publishes and presents in the fields of civic engagement, leadership development and gender issues in leadership. In the spring of 2004 she received the University's Outstanding Service Award. She has twice been a finalist for the Pilot Award, the University's outstanding teaching award. And in 2008 she received the University's Edmund Shearer Adviser of the Year Award. In 2011 Christie and Curt were selected by the Kansas Attorney General to receive the Kansas Crime Victim's State Champion Award. In 2013 Christie and Curt were recognized as the Kansas State University College of Education's annual Alumni Fellows. In 2014 Christie was selected as one of Ingram's Publishing "50 Kansans You Should Know" recognition.

Elaine is a senior at Fort Hays State University where she is pursuing a major in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. She is passionate about promoting gender equality while combating and raising awareness for relationship, domestic, and sexual violence, along with various other social issues through her work in the Women's Leadership Project. In addition to the Women’s Leadership Project, Elaine is an active member of the Criminal Justice Club, and she holds management committee positions in both Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and the Young Democrats. After graduation, Elaine hopes to attend graduate school to further her education.

Brooklynn is a sophomore at Fort Hays State University majoring in Psychology. She looks forward to the opportunity of working in the Women’s Leadership Project and raising awareness for dating and domestic violence. She is very passionate about various other social justice issues and is excited for the events the Women’s Leadership Project will complete this year. In the future, Brooklynn hopes to pursue her masters in Clinical Psychology and work closely with individuals struggling with mental illness.
