Dr. Brungardt is the senior member and creator of the Department of Leadership Studies and the co-founder of the Center for Civic Leadership. He specializes in political leadership, social change, and community organizing. Dr. Brungardt is an author and co-author of several books and numerous articles and has presented over 150 workshops throughout the world. However, he is best known as a social entrepreneur creating and developing programs, both inside and outside of academia, that directly impact peoples lives.

Morgan Lawrence is a Management  major at Fort Hays State University, with a minor in Finance who will graduate in December of 2015. Throughout the past three years, Morgan has been actively involved in Student Government Association as a senator and the Chair of the Senate Affairs Committee. She has also be involved in Alpha Kappa Psi, the Professional Business Fraternity, where she served as the treasurer for two full years. Morgan has really enjoyed her time as a co-coordinator in the American Democracy Project and is really looking forward to impacting the life of students, and making them more aware of civic engagement.

Vivian Agnew is a Political Science major at Fort Hays State University, with an emphasis in pre-law. Vivian is also a senator in the Student Government Association for the college of Arts and Science, and is a member of Fort Hays’ Epsilon Mu Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. She is excited for the opportunity to work with the American Democracy project in the Center for Civic Leadership because it allows her the opportunity to facilitate programming that will inform the Hays community about the importance of civic engagement.

Brett Whitaker is a faculty member and administrator in the Department of Leadership Studies at Fort Hays State University (FHSU).  His research and teaching interests include global leadership, global issues, civic engagement, higher education, and curricular design.  Mr. Whitaker is currently pursuing a PhD in Global Leadership at Indiana Tech.

She received two Bachelor’s degrees—Bachelor of Art in Business English from Sias and Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from FHSU. She is now pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration at FHSU. She is enthusiastic about helping others and has a great passion to get more students involved in the community.

In addition to holding a teaching position in the Department of Leadership Studies, Dr. Brungardt has been an active member in creating and implementing numerous Center for Civic Leadership programs. These include KYLA, Ben Franklin Papers, American Democracy Project, and the Kansas Women’s Leadership Conference. Christie holds a Ph.D. from Kansas State University.
