Time: 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Location: Stouffer Lounge, Memorial Union, Fort Hays State University

Are you stressed and overwhelmed at work? Do you struggle with burnout and exhaustion related to balancing your work and personal life? If you answered "yes," you're not alone. According to a recent survey (Stress in America) conducted by the American Psychological Association, people in the United States are reporting heightened levels of stress and anxiety as well as an inability to manage work-life demands. In this interactive workshop, attendees will learn about emotional intelligence and mindfulness - two topics that have been shown to help in the management of stress and burnout. Attendees will have an opportunity to practice strategies that cultivate emotional intelligence and mindfulness as well as explore how these strategies might be integrated into their daily routine.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to recognize internal and external stressors at work/home and identify how these stressors contribute to burnout and disengagement.
  • Gain a better understanding of emotional intelligence, including why emotional intelligence is related to stress-management.
  • Learn how to cultivate emotional intelligence through five key aspects including self-awareness and control, empathy, social expertness, personal influence and mastery of vision.
  • Explore and practice useful strategies to manage stress and burnout, specifically related to mindfulness and self-compassion.

This workshop is facilitated by Dr. Rose Helens-Hart & Dr. Whitney Jeter
