Identification of a positive case of the UK variant of the Coronavirus on campus (2/4/2021)
Dear Colleagues;
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment informed us last evening they have identified a positive case for the UK variant of the virus in one of our student athletes. KDHE is dispatching their mobile testing lab today, and it will be on campus tomorrow to begin additional contact tracing, offer additional testing, and identify any additional cases for appropriate next steps, including quarantine and isolation.
The university and the Ellis County Health Department will issue a joint press release shortly on this subject. We will provide more details as they are available.
As a reminder, the best way to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and its evolving variants is to continue to adhere to essential health and safety precautions, including maintaining physical distancing, wearing face masks, practicing good hygiene, staying home if ill, following isolation and quarantine recommendations, and getting vaccinated as soon as it is available.
The latest information on COVID-19 variants is available on the Centers for Disease Control Prevention’s website at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/transmission/variant.html
