Why can’t my students access their courses on Blackboard, but I can?
Your course is invisible or unavailable to students until you change the Course Availability setting from No to Yes. Go to the Control Panel section of the course menuClick CustomizationClick Properties and scroll down to …Set Availability, click Yes, then click Submit.
I’m getting Navigation to the webpage was canceled messages. What should I do?
This message is normally encountered when using Internet Explorer 7 or 8 if you click Yes in this Security Warning dialog box: To resolve this issue, you must: Close the browser (and all browser windows), Open the session in a new browser window, andClick No when the security warning appears the next time. Most users usually click Yes when they receive prompts asking if they want to view secure content. However, if you choose Yes, you are agreeing to see only the securely delivered content. Most content presented by Blackboard is not securely delivered; it is simply authenticated using your Blackboard login. When you respond Yes, it cancels navigation to the page and the page does not load. Follow the steps above and you should no longer have a problem with this. Note: We believe the best solution to this issue is to NOT use Internet Explorer and use Mozilla Firefox instead. The latest version of Firefox can be downloaded free at www.mozilla.org
The left menu in my course disappeared! How can I find the navigation buttons for my course?
There is a Show/Hide arrow on the left side of the page which opens and closes the course menu. You can click on the arrow to display the menu. This feature allows you to have more screen space for large graphics or text, when needed.
Why does the Windows Security dialogue box ask for my username and password when I attempt to open MS Office from Blackboard?
This happens because you are using Internet Explorer. To open the file, simply leave the username and password field blank, and click the Cancel button. To avoid these dialogue boxes altogether, use Mozilla Firebox as your web browser for Bb. How can I clear a student’s attempt on a test/reset a student’s assessment?
To reset a test/clear attempt:
Go to the Grade Center of your Bb course site
Click on the double-arrow icon for the student’s assessment you wish to clear
Click View Grade Details. Grade Details page will appear.
Click the Clear Attempt button (lower right on the page)
When a student takes a test the answers appear to be changing. What is happening?
This can happen when a student uses the scroll wheel on a mouse while taking a test. The system selects different answers, as the question field becomes the active cursor spot. A way to avoid this is to click a blank area on the test before using the scroll wheel. Remind students to review their answers before submitting if they use the scroll wheel on their mouse.
When I hide a column in Grade Center, it is not hidden from students. Why not?
Selecting Hide Column only makes the grade column invisible to those who can edit the Grade Center (i.e., Instructors, Graders, or TAs). To make a grade column unavailable to students when they look at the My Grades area:
Go to the Grade Center for the course site
Select Edit Column Information from the column heading menu
In the Options area, select No for Show the Column to Students, and then Submit.
Alternatively, you can select Show/Hide to Users from the column heading's menu to show or hide the column to the students.
When I click View/Complete to submit my assignment into SafeAssign, it takes me back to my Bb home page. Why does this happen?
This problem occurs when a course needs to be synchronized with the SafeAssign central database. To resolve this problem:
Go to Course Tools in the course Control Panel
Click the SafeAssign link
Click the SafeAssignments link
If you need to synchronize SafeAssign, you will see a yellow banner stating: This course has SafeAssignment(s) that seem to be out of sync with the SafeAssign service. Please click the Synchronize this Course button to fix this problem.
Click the Synchronize this course button. SafeAssign will synchronize, and the SafeAssignments will be accessible to your students.

Recommended Web Browser for Blackboard
Please note that if you are using a browser that is supported with Blackboard, but are still having problems within Blackboard, you'll want to check that your browser is set up in a way that allows Blackboard to work properly. Take the steps in the configuration instructions to ensure that your browser is set up correctly.
Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome (The latest versions) are the recommended web browsers for the best experience and performance with Blackboard. For Mac users, Safari 5, Google Chrome, and Firefox are equally recommended.
Avoid older versions of any browser.
Blackboard also requires the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The JRE can be downloaded from java.com/en/download/index.jsp
To determine your current browser version:
Open your browser (for example: Mozilla Firefox)
From the browser menu bar, select Help
A screen will appear that shows your browser name and version.
