Language Requirements
International students must meet a minimum English proficiency language requirement before beginning academic coursework at Fort Hays State University.
If language proficiency falls below the stated minimum, applicants are encouraged to attend the TLC-Hays Intensive English Program located on the Fort Hays State University campus (see below for level completion requirements).
Students may be admitted to Fort Hays State University and will be sent the form I-20 IF:
- All other requirements for admission are met, AND
- One of the following standardized test scores are met, OR
- Qualify for exception as defined below, OR
- Student will complete TLC-Hays Intensive English program requirements.
TLC-HAYS INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate – successful completion of Level 9
- Graduate – successful completion of Level 9 + two advanced English modules

EXCEPTIONS
- Applicants seeking admission to FHSU who have completed 24+ academic credits from an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States and have satisfied the admission GPA requirement meet the language requirement.
- Students home county's native language is English
NOTE: Institutional TOEFL scores will not be accepted as meeting our language requirements.
*FHSU is accepting Duolingo and English 3 on a short-term basis. After being admitted, all new international students with Duolingo or English 3 scores will be screened within the first two weeks of the first semester. This screening will not affect a student's admission; it will be used to evaluate these two English exams.
