Pre-Arrival Information for New International Students

You have been accepted to FHSU and should have received your I-20 or DS-2019.  Congratulations and welcome to the Tiger family! 

The International Student Services Office is here to support you during your entire academic career at Fort Hays State University, but we also help you prepare for life at FHSU (and in Hays, Kansas) before you arrive. We will help advise you in issues related to your legal status as well as other questions you might have about your life in Hays. Our office also provides you opportunities to meet and build friendships with US families and students, while providing a cross-cultural exchange through a number of programs and activities that you can become involved in.

The information below provides you with important pre-arrival information prior to your travels to the U.S.

Travel Information
Preparing to Travel to the US &Transportation and Arrival Information are two documents that provide students with information on traveling to the U.S., what to prepare for, and what you may want to bring or purchase when you arrive to FHSU.   
Please provide our office with your travel itinerary by completing the travel planning form so our office can make transportation arrangements to greet you are the Hays airport or the Greyhound Bus Station.  We CANNOT provide transportation from other airports.

Residential Life (housing)
**On campus housing is limited.  It is very important that you email contact us AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you plan to live on campus by completing and emailing the Residential Life Housing Application.  A helpful web site that provides visa information, health insurance information, and other services you may want to know about can be found here.

International Orientation
Tiger Impact International Orientation will take place August 13-18, 2017.  You will receive more information upon arrival to FHSU regarding the orientation schedule for the week of August 13-18.  Please make sure to report to the International Students Services office in Sheridan Hall 204 if you are making your own travel arrangements to Hays and someone other than our staff is picking you up once you arrive.  This is to ensure our office is aware you made it to campus and can provide initial orientation items to you.

SAUDI ARABIA STUDENTS
Please read and take action on the Financial & Health Insurance Information handout.  This is VERY important if you are going to be sponsored by the Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission.  It outlines specific items for you to complete with the Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission before you arrive at FHSU especially health insurance.

Contact with the International Student Services Office
It is important that you make contact with our office if you plan to come to FHSU.  If you have decided to attend another university, did not get your visa, want to defer to another semester, or you just are not going to come, please also let our office know.

Our office is here to help!  By contacting the International Student Services Office with your arrival information, we can make sure your transition to life at FHSU is a smooth one.  Please feel feel to ask questions!
