Are you ready to learn how to protect the common good? The Department of Justice Studies has a program to equip you with the skills you need in the field. A combination of in-depth classroom learning, hands-on experience, and strong faculty mentorship puts you on the path to success.
The Department of Justice Studies offers one undergraduate degree program, one minor, and one Master’s of Professional Studies emphasis, preparing you to face the challenges of a career in law enforcement. Additionally, the Department offers five certificate programs to add depth to your educational experience, regardless of your major.
Undergraduate Programs in Justice Studies
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies At FHSU, your core courses introduce you to the main theories in criminal justice. You can choose the rest of your courses from a diverse range of electives, allowing you to specialize in law enforcement, corrections, law and the courts, or create your own combination of courses. Depending on your interests, you could supplement your studies with courses in defensive tactics or an internship.

Minor in Justice StudiesA minor allows you to familiarize yourself with the criminal justice system while maintaining your degree focus. You will need to take JUS 101: Introduction to Criminal Justice and JUS 200: Criminology and fifteen additional credit hours of Justice Studies classes. You can take classes covering all areas of the legal system from enforcing the law to exacting social justice.
Certificate Programs in Justice StudiesA certificate adds value to your education by building your knowledge in a particular topic area, giving you an advantage in the workplace or allowing you to explore your passion within your major. You can earn a certificate as part of your major coursework, or simply take the required series of courses and nothing further.
