LDRS Students Receive Dept. Scholarships
Congratulations to Tyson Miller, Colby Junior, for receiving the Omer Voss Student Leadership Scholarship. Congratulations to Regan Ochs, Hoxie Junior, for receiving the Department of Leadership Studies Student Scholarship. Both will be recognized at the College of Arts and Sciences Reception on Thursday, May 10, 2012. We are proud of these two students for their incredible work in the classroom and community.

Congratulations to the following students for their incredible accomplishments over the last few weeks.
Korby Boswell, Student office assistant, is one of a few students that was awarded a scholarship to travel to China this summer to study abroad. Organizational Leadership majors Tre' Giles, Ashley Fitzsimmons, and Josh Doak were elected as FHSU Student Government senators. They will represent the College of Arts and Sciences.
2012 Washburn Leadership Challenge Event Champions
The FHSU Organizational Leadership majors team won the collegiate division of the Leadership Challenge Event at Washburn University on Friday, March 30, 2012. The collegiate division consisted of a total of seven teams. During the event, the students engaged in a leadership simulation that challenged students to work together to solve a problem, with each team member assuming a particular role through three different rounds. Throughout the day, students participated in individual and team scenarios, culminating with a presentation of their comprehensive plan, including their findings and recommendations. All events and activities throughout the process were evaluated by a team of judges. The Department of Leadership Studies is proud of these students and their two faculty advisors. Representing the department as team members and faculty advisors were as follows:

LDRS meets with newly created Advisory Board
The Department of Leadership Studies believes in continuous improvement in order to have the best programs available for students. A departmental advisory board was created to gain input, perspective, and advice from various stakeholders for program improvement and potential partnerships. The first meeting was held in March 2012, with plans being made for a Fall 2012 gathering. Brungardts' facilitate webinar
Drs. Curt and Christie Brungardt recently conducted an interactive webinar through Campus Compact entitled, "Service-learning and addressing sexual violence and abuse on campus." They shared their personal story of violence and work to engage students, faculty, administrators, and community partners to reduce sexual assault and violence on college campuses and communities.
LDRS students chosen for Honor Societies
Congratulations to Regan Ochs and Tyson Miller for their recent induction into FHSU Mortar Board Society. Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, creates opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to the university and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community. Congratulations also to Regan Ochs for her acceptance into Omicron Delta Kappa. Omicron Delta Kappa Society is a national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character. We are proud of our students for their leadership and academic achievements!
Kelly Nuckolls receives Midwest Model United Nations award.
We are happy to announce that Kelly Nuckolls, a Political Science major, received the top position paper award at the Midwest Model United Nations Conference (General Assembly-Third Committee; Social, Humanitarian, & Cultural), in St. Louis last week. Kelly represented the Russian delegation and her paper focused on agriculture development and food security and insuring the rights of indigenous populations. Nearly 500 students from 40 universities participated in this years conference. Congratulations Kelly!
LDRS Faculty Publish Two Articles
Congratulations to Ms. LeAnn Brown on the acceptance of her article titled, "Integrating the Old with the New: Transformational Leadership and Cultural Intelligence for an Interdependent World". It will be published in the June 2012 edition of the peer-reviewed journal, International Leadership Journal.
Congratulations to Mr. John Montgomery and Dr. Jill Arensdorf for the acceptance of their article titled, "Preparing Globally Competent Leaders through Innovative Study Abroad Experiences". It will be published in the peer reviewed journal, Journal of Leadership Studies.
