Meet the October 2016 Students of the Month

On-Campus Student: Jacy Buchholz

Jacy is a senior Organizational Leadership major from WaKeeney. On-campus she is involved with Sigma Alpha, a professional agriculture sorority and is the chair of the Fellowship committee. Outside of school, Jacy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going to church, going to events in the community and on campus, and painting. She wanted to get involved with the department because she had an old roommate who was an Organizational Leadership major and was excited and passionate about her classes. At the time, Jacy did not feel the same about her major so she took a risk and changed her major. She instantly fell in love with the classes and positive and uplifting atmosphere. She felt more engaged and appreciated the application to real life each class provided. So far, Jacy's favorite class has been LDRS 310, Fieldwork in Leadership Studies. She says "even though this has been my most challenging class, the friendships and networks I made in the class will last a lifetime." This class challenged her comfort zone and she was able to become more comfortable speaking in public. She also gained experience and skills to work in non-profit. Jacy also says "it was an honor to be a part of something bigger than me and it gave me a sense of what it is like to be an effective change agent."

Virtual Student: John Saffold

John is a junior from Detroit majoring in Organizational Leadership. Outside of school, he likes to spend time with his children, play hockey, golf, and bowl. He is also very involved in his church. John volunteers for many community programs his church supports. He got involved with the department because he wanted to learn more about the leadership landscape and about how he can be an effective leader in organizations he serves. John has only taken one leadership class thus far- LDRS 300, Introduction to Leadership Concepts. He enjoys this class because he enjoys learning about theories, concepts, and models that are presented. John says he is looking forward to learning and growing in his understanding of leadership.

International Student: Shengyi Wang (Victoria)

Victoria is originally from Da Lian China and is minoring in Leadership Studies while earning a degree in Finance. On campus, she is involved in the yoga club and swim club. Outside of school, she likes to draw, swim, and write. She likes being involved with the department because she can learn many skills that will help her in her future career. Her knowledge also allows her to know how to create good relationships with team members. In her current class, she feels relaxed and can learn in a fun environment.
