Teacher Education Academic Advising

Welcome to the Teacher Education Academic Advising site! Communication between student and advisor is vitally important. Academic advising is a connecting point for all Fort Hays State University students. At FHSU, we believe in the importance of academic advising, so each student has been assigned an academic advisor. At FHSU, academic advising is based on a system of shared responsibility between student and advisor. Take the initiative and make regular contact with your advisor to discuss any questions or concerns.

New Students

On behalf of the Teacher Education Department, welcome to Fort Hays State University! We understand that upon entering FHSU, it's easy for new students to become overwhelmed. Follow the steps below in order to get started. If at anytime you have questions, please feel free to contact your academic advisor or the Department of Teacher Education.


  1. Activate your TigerNetID: Your TigerNetID will be used to log into most FHSU computing resources, including TigerTracks. TigerTracks is the student web portal for FHSU. You will be able to access your Webmail, the Blackboard course delivery system, financial aid status, and much more!
  2. Apply for Financial Assistance: There are multiple opportunities to receive financial assistance for your educational expenses. Financial aid may be funded by the federal or state governments, the University Foundation, or private and community organizations. Types of financial assistance include grants, loans, military benefits, and scholarships.
  3. Enroll in Courses: Students will use TigerEnroll to pre-enroll in courses and finalize enrollment. This page offers tutorials on how to use TigerEnroll.
  4. Order Course Materials: This page will detail how to look-up and order course materials for your courses.
  5. Contact Instructors: The FHSU Campus Directory houses contact information for all FHSU faculty & staff.
  6. Admission Procedures: Review the requirements, deadlines, and application for Admission into Teacher Education & Admission into Student Teaching.
  7. Follow the Teacher Education Calendar: Follow the Teacher Education Calendar for important dates at FHSU and in the Teacher Education Department. For additional information on enrollment deadlines, pre-enrollment dates, refund deadlines and more, please visit the Academic Calendar.


Department Resources

  • Academic Programs: Several tracks exist within the education program, allowing you to specialize your degree around your particular interests and career goals. Most programs are offered both on-campus and online.
  • Admission to Teacher Education: A student pursuing a program leading to teaching licensure should seek admission to Teacher Education during the second semester of the sophomore year or the first semester of the junior year (this may vary for transfer students).
  • Admission to Student Teaching: A student who has been admitted to Teacher Education may apply to enroll in Student Teaching in the fall or spring semester of their senior year. Student Teaching will be completed during a student's final semester.
  • Testing Requirements: Review the testing requirements for program entrance and licensure.
  • Student Organizations: Be sure to nurture your life outside the classroom by becoming involved in student organizations that relate to your major.

  • Academic Calendar: The University has a number of dates that are important to students. Information on enrollment deadlines, pre-enrollment dates, refund deadlines, and more is available!
  • Academic Advising & Career Exploration: Students exploring major options or looking to confirm major choice can seek assistance from the AACE.
  • Academic Support & Tutoring: Do you need help adjusting to college course work? Does the massive amount of information overwhelm you? Are you having trouble balancing school, work and family? Academic Success Programs at the Kelly Center can help you manage these challenges to achieve success in college.
  • Commencement Ceremony: Information on this year's Commencement Ceremonies. Includes schedule of events, activities, programs, cap & gowns, and much more!
  • Course Schedule: Access the course schedule for upcoming semesters in your TigerTracks account.
  • Forsyth Library: Forsyth provides access to the library's databases, research guides, and student services.
  • GPA Calculator: Tool to help calculate GPA.
  • Intent to Graduate: Are you planning to graduate next semester? If so, you will need to fill out an intent to graduate form and pay your graduation fees no later than the first day of classes for the semester you intend to graduate.
  • Registrar's Office: The Registrar's Office can assist you with interpreting university policies and degree requirements, fulfill your transcript requests or verify your current enrollment for insurance purposes.


Support Services

  • Career Services: This office can help you connect with professionals in your desired career field. Resume and cover letter assistance is also provided.
  • International Student Services: This office provides a variety of services for FHSU international students.
  • Kelly Center Support Services: The Kelly Center provides a variety of confidential student services, including: academic support & tutoring, personal counseling, alcohol & drug counseling, testing services, accessibility services, and much more!
  • Student Health Center: Provides health care and educational outreach for FHSU students.
  • TigerTech Support: Provides technical support to FHSU students, faculty, & staff.
