Our Services

News Bureau --We can deliver news releases for you to media outlets throughout Kansas and beyond. For assistance in preparing and distributing news releases, please give us enough advance notice. The process involves not only preparation of the release but consideration of deadlines at the media outlets you want to target. The bottom line: the more notice, the better. We can also provide helpful counseling on how to work effectively with the media. For information or assistance, contact our Assistant Director Kurt Beyers at kbeyers@fhsu.edu.

Publications -- Our office produces a wide range of printed materials, from promotional items for the university at large to brochures, pamphlets and business forms for specific departments and offices, to magazines and newsletters. Our graphic design department, headed by Art Director Mary Ridgway (mridgway@fhsu.edu), can assist you in developing your publications. It is important that you allow ample time for the typically lengthy process of writing, designing, printing and distributing publications.

Special Events -- The Office of University Relations regularly assists the President's Office, the FHSU Foundation, the Alumni Association, the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, the Docking Institute of Public Affairs, academic departments and various other campus organizations in planning, promoting and conducting special events. These events include a wide range of activities such as news conferences, grand openings, Homecoming, TailGreat, dedication ceremonies and others. If your office believes an activity or accomplishment would merit some sort of special event, we can assist you with coordination and planning.

Promoting Our Brand -- Working closely with the President's Office and the Brand Implementation Team, the Office of University Relations uses the university's brand identity and brand drivers to help market the university through publicity and advertising. All our publicity efforts should reinforce the goals and strengths identified in those statements. We also supervise the university's licensing program, which controls the commercial use of Fort Hays State University's protected identity marks -- such as the university name, logo, mascot and seal. Detailed information about all uses of the university's identity marks can be obtained from our Identity Standards Manual. Brochures about licensing and identity standards are also available in our office.
