FHSU Phone System Information (if your phone has NOT yet been converted)

Cell PhonesConference CallsInternational Calling

Telecommunications Services is currently converting all departments to our new Voice over IP system (VoIP) provided by Nex-Tech.  Your phone numbers will not change, but your phones will.  There will be a choice as to whether to have a desk phone or you can use what is called a soft phone (headset connected to your computer).  The monthly charges to each department should not change, either.  Some of the noticeable new features of the system are:

  • Desk phones will have a touch screen display;
  • There is a mobile app that will allow you to make calls from your cell phone and have them appear as if they are coming from your office;
  • Phones will be Bluetooth headset capable;
  • You will have voicemail-to-email; and
  • You will have Call Jump – the ability to transfer a call from your desk phone to your mobile device and remain on the call.

These are just a few of the new capabilities available in the new system. Training will be provided by Nex-Tech.  It is our hope that we can have the entire campus switched over to the new system prior to the Winter break. We look forward to providing this new, upgraded service to you. We do ask for a little patience as we go through the transition as there may be some minor difficulties during the migration.

Conversion Information

Beginning Friday, July 28, 2017:  4-Digit Dialing functionality will be affected during the conversion:  4-Digit Dialing will only work if both the caller and the receiver are on the same system (either the legacy FHSU system or the new Nex-Tech system).  Until the conversion is completed throughout campus, it is highly recommended that when making calls or transferring calls, dial 9-628-XXXX (4-digit extension) if you are on the old system OR dial 628-XXXX (4-digit extension) if you are on the new Nex-Tech system.

Conversion Progress:  View buildings/areas on campus that are coming soon, in progress, or completed.  A notice will be sent to campus when the conversion has been completed.

Your Conversion Date:  Your department will be contacted by Telecommunication Services regarding your conversion date.

Pricing: Monthly recurring charges to departments, in most cases, will not change with the conversion to our new VoIP system with Nextech. There are a few circumstances where additional fees may be incurred by departments.

Additional fees will be charged in the following circumstances only:

  • Main departmental offices will be allowed to install 2 phones on one extension with no additional fees. If more than 2 phones are needed on one extension, the fee will be $14 per month, per additional phone.
  • Sidecars (or consoles). Departments will be charged for sidecars at a rate of $14 per month.
  • Bluetooth Headsets. Departments should purchase Bluetooth headsets through the warehouse. There is no additional monthly fee for Bluetooth headsets.

Speed Dial Setup Request Form:  Use this form to submit Speed Dials (if desired) before your phone is converted.  In order to allow the technicians to complete the Campus Phone System conversion as quickly as possible, you will not be notified when your Speed Dials are set up.   They will be programmed into the system as soon as possible.  After your Speed Dials have been set up, they will automatically display on your phone's screen following an overnight system update.
