Bachelor's degree in Applied Leadership
With a Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Leadership from Fort Hays State University – offered on-campus and online – service members, transfer students, and community and technical college students can maximize previously earned credits to complete this program in less than four years.
The BAS program was created to bridge the gap in completing a bachelor's degree for those with non-traditional educational backgrounds. This program allows students to obtain a certificate in Leadership Studies, an associate degree in Technology Leadership, and ultimately a bachelor's degree in Applied Leadership by recognizing and building upon their prior experience.
The BAS in Applied Leadership creates opportunities and prepares you for a variety of careers, such as:
- management
- community service
- social service
- life, physical, and social science
General Education Requirements - 34 hours |

Students must satisfy general education requirements in the eight designated areas for a total of 34 credit hours. |
Leadership Studies Concentration - 30 hours |
Students must take 30 hours of required and elective courses in Leadership Studies. |
Applied Learning - 56 hours |
The BAS in Applied Leadership focuses on American Council on Education (ACE) credit attained from the Joint Service Transcript (JST) or vocational / technical education courses which fits into a course by course basis transfer approach . |

Leadership Programs
FHSU's Leadership Programs offers several programs online and on-campus that prepare students to become effective organizational members of the 21st-century workplace. Our department embraces the approach that leadership can be learned. You will learn theory and critical workforce skills in the classroom and be exposed to a variety of opportunities to apply those theories and skills through interactive classes and internships.
Leadership Studies Association
The Leadership Studies Association exists to allow students to grow their leadership capacity through building relationships, developing skills, and challenging themselves to take opportunities to practice leadership. Learn to lead!
The Voss Advanced Leadership Undergraduate Experience (VALUE) is designed to develop the most promising undergraduates into powerful agents following their educational experience at FHSU. The VALUE program is a year-long curricular and co-curricular experience for upper-division students on campus and online.
Students in the VALUE program can explore their interests and develop a plan of study for one year related to one of three tracks:
- corporate leadership
- civic/non-profit leadership
- scholarship/leadership research
