Jenny Reichard RT (R), RDMS, RVT, RDCS
What degree(s) did you earn from FHSU?
I graduated in 2002 with an Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Imaging.
Have you pursued any further education?
I haven’t furthered my education in a school sense but in this field, I further my education on a daily basis. I never stop learning and continue to push myself to get better every day. There are still a couple of registries that I plan to take. I do someday hope to teach and get my master's when I'm done scanning and working in the field.
Where have you taken your career since graduating?
After graduating, I obtained my RDMS (AB, BR, OB), RVT, and RDCS (AE, FE). I am currently getting ready to crosstrain a final time with a pediatric cardiologist to get certified in Pediatric Echocardiography. By continuing to beable to earn new credentials, this career has been extremely rewarding and challenging. I am currently workingfull time at Ottawa Family Physicians, working part time at Overland Park Regional Maternal Fetal Medicine andSt. Francis Hospital in Topeka, and lastly PRN at My Heart Check. This career has allowed me to have a greatprofession yet not miss my children’s important life events. Ultrasound has taken me to many different cities, several states, and allowed me to make an impact on many lives. This field of work has given me the opportunityto meet so many great people that have shaped me into the sonographer and person I am today.
What is something you enjoyed about the Allied Health Department or the program(s) offered?
My favorite part of being part of the Allied Health program was the closeness and the life long relationships that Iformed while there. With the program being smaller, we all became one big family and worked hard to help each other succeed in this field of study. The professors were super helpful and always wanted the best for us as a classand as individuals. I will forever be grateful and loyal to this program and school for the amazing opportunities ithas given me.
What advice would you give someone thinking about a career in medical imaging?
My advice would be to absolutely, 100%, choose a career in this field. My passion for ultrasound and diagnosticmedical imaging has only grown over the last 20 years. I genuinely love what I do and could not imagine doinganything else. New technology has made diagnostic imaging grow leaps and bounds from when I started. Thefuture is only going to get better as technology continues to change. This is definitely a very rewarding and stable career that will always be needed.
