Business Education: Brookie Guthrie, Kyle Harvey
Brookie Guthrie – BUED
Being a Business Education major at Fort Hays State University has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of my life! The program consists of classes that can range anywhere from Business Law to Social Media Marketing. All of these classes have helped me enhance not only my business knowledge but my life skills in general. I have enjoyed taking classes both online and in-person, as well as meeting new students and staff. The encouragement and assistance from the staff have helped me reach my goals and given me the confidence to be my best. As I near graduation, I feel prepared to take on my new full-time job as a High School Business Teacher and am excited to help students prepare for life after high school!
Kyle Harvey – BUED
The Business Education program at Fort Hays State University has provided me with countless opportunities of growth and achievement. About three years ago when I started my educational journey, I had just been hired into an entry level Trainers position for my current employer and it feels that FHSU and my instructors have been with me every step of my career. From learning how to instruct remote classes all the way to pitching executive level proposals, I’ve learned what I needed to be successful from the courses provided by the Business Education program. Additionally, as I look back over my time spent with FHSU I will always remember fondly the extra effort that each of my instructors/professors took to go above and beyond in providing me and my fellow classmates our education. The level of passion in the FHSU educator is truly unrivaled in my personal opinion and I’m excited to continue applying their wisdom to the employees I instruct every day in my professional career. Lastly, I would like to say that I am both honored and humbled to be recognized with this award and to officially call myself an FHSU graduate of the Business Education program! Go Tigers!
Marketing: Kasey Hulteen, Makenna Allen
Kasey Hulteen – MKT
As I reflect on the last three years of attending FHSU, I realize that I have had many significant experiences while in the Marketing program. I greatly appreciated writing blogs and creating social media posts for The Social Media Marketing University. Practical experience is invaluable when looking for a new career and meeting with prospective employers. Other projects and reports that I completed during my courses provided valuable knowledge and experience that I will be using in my career. I also enjoyed discussions with my classmates about course topics, especially in the Ethical Issues class. The class was one of my favorites. Overall, I enjoyed my time at FHSU and look forward to the future.
Makenna Allen – MKT
It is an honor to be selected for the Outstanding Student Award for the Marketing program. I am so thankful for my time as a Marketing major at Fort Hays State University that has prepared me to contribute to my community in a meaningful way. I will forever remember the faculty and staff members who invested in my future over the course of the past four years. Their dedication and commitment to the success of Tiger students sets the Fort Hays State University community apart as a true gem among higher education institutions.
While I have always been confident that my classroom experience would prepare me to successfully enter the workforce, I have never been more sure of the quality of my FHSU educational experience than I am at the conclusion of my senior year. During my final two semesters of college, I have had the opportunity to implement the concepts I was actively developing in the classroom within a workplace setting. The ability to integrate new marketing concepts with the projects I was assigned at work provided me with excitement for what the future holds.
The FHSU Marketing program faculty members are truly experts within the field who dedicate themselves to personal development in a constantly changing environment. Simultaneously, they pour out their knowledge, both traditional and new, for the betterment of Tiger marketing students. This fresh perspective has given me a new passion to pursue excellence in my field as I continue to learn and develop in the next chapter of my life.
Tourism and Hospitality Management: Dalton Schneitter, Haley Reiter, Saknitta Sin
Dalton Schneitter – THM
My time with the FHSU Tourism and Hospitality Management Program has been nothing but great the whole way through. I started with FHSU in 2019 after taking a two year break from college, and my advisors, professors, and classmates made this return to school an amazing experience. Through FHSU, I was able to take an incredible range of classes to broaden my knowledge within the tourism and hospitality field. Also, I was selected by FHSU to attend the Kansas Tourism Conference where I was able to meet and connect with tourism leaders from all over Kansas! I have been able to apply the information that I have learned from my time here at FHSU to my current internship, and I look forward to sharing all of my knowledge with my professional career in the hospitality industry. I have loved my time being a Tiger, and there is nowhere else I would have rather completed my college journey at than FHSU.
Haley Reiter – THM
Over the past four years numerous individuals within the Tourism and Hospitality program at Fort Hays State University, both faculty and students, have left a lasting impression on my life. My professors within the program have impacted me more than they realize. Their guidance has given me the confidence to participate in multiple internships and venture to Belgium to study abroad. I highly value my classroom learning experiences, but am even more thankful to Dr. Smith and Dr. Thal for teaching me their integrity, compassion, and work ethic. My fellow students have also guided me through this journey and encouraged me to strive for excellence. Classroom connections that have turned into life-long friendships led me to an exciting internship position. This internship would ultimately lead to the acceptance of my first post-graduate job, at the same property. I will be forever grateful to the Tourism and Hospitality program for the connections I have made and the opportunities that I have been given.
Saknitta Sin – THM
I am Saknitta (Jane) Sin. My hometown is Siem Reap, a historical city in Cambodia where tourists worldwide come to visit Angkor Wat and its other wonders. Becoming a part of the tourism and hospitality industry has always been my career goal, and choosing the right university is equally important.
I am pursuing a dual degree program in Tourism and Hospitality Management at the American University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Fort Hays State University (US). Since the day I was accepted by FHSU as an international student, my college experience has been new and exciting. Although I took most of my courses online, I benefited from the same academic experience as students who studied on-site. The best part is that professors always encourage us to overcome obstacles, and they always support us to ensure that everyone is on the right track. In addition, the professors often assign us to do research projects related to our major or the subject that we are studying. Each project encourages us to apply the theory we are studying in the course and relate it to actual practice.
As a THM major, I not only studied THM courses, but I also studied business courses to prepare for work in THM and other business firms. At FHSU, we developed our academic understanding, soft skills, and hard skills, and we also developed a world view. Studying with FHSU has enabled me to compare and contrast how the tourism industry in the US works and identify what I can use to benefit and develop the proper standards and practices for the tourism industry in Cambodia.
