Peter J. and Pamela Werth Scholarship
For: KAMS graduates who seek an FHSU Chemistry degree, or FHSU students with similar qualifications seeking to change their major to chemistry.
Amount: $1,800 total award ($900 Werth scholarship and $900 Chemistry Department scholarship).
Features: Renewable twice for a total of three years support. Scholarships may be used to cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, room and board, and any other college-related expenses.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Received a grade of A or B in Chem120 and Chem 122
2. Overall college GPA of 3.0
3. Favorable letter of reference from current or former Chem 120/122 instructor
4. Intent to pursue a bachelor's degree in Chemistry

3. A 500-1,000 word essay describing academic background and how pursuing an FHSU chemistry degree will help you achieve your career goals

Application & Notification Deadlines:
Priority Application Date: January 15 (Date to apply for most favorable consideration)
Award Notification Date: Review of applications will begin in early January and award notifications will be made on a rolling basis until all available awards have been accepted.
Final Application Deadline: April 15 (Final date to apply for consideration)
Requirements & Deadlines to Receive Award After Notification:
May 1: Acceptance deadline (Notify department that you accept/decline the award)
May 15: Thank-you note submission. Write a thank you to Peter and Pamela Werth indicating how the scholarship will benefit your educational goals. The card/note should be mailed or hand delivered to application address.)
May 15: Pre-registration deadline. (Declare a major in chemistry and pre-register in the appropriate FHSU coursework to fulfill the requirements for a bachelor's degree in chemistry.)

Renewal Guidelines & Application Information
Werth scholarships are renewable but do not automatically renew. An annual renewal application is required. An original Werth award is allowed to be renewed twice for a total of three years of support.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Overall college GPA of 3.0.
2. Chemistry major GPA of 2.75 with no grade less than a C. (GPA based upon the math and science courses required for your degree program.)
3. Continue to be declared a major and to register in courses appropriate for completing a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
4. Active involvement in chemistry department pursuits outside of the classroom (e.g. Chemistry or Pre-professional club, student worker, research, etc.).
5. No drug or alcohol infractions.
