Entrepreneurial Process, Innovation, Creativity (EPIC)
Entrepreneurship is where creativity meets business – it makes sense that the EPIC certificate is the most flexible credential that FHSU offers and one of the fastest to complete! The certificate has it all: fun, innovation, and hands-on courses with real-world experiences that help give you an edge in any job.
Students can receive the core EPIC certificate in just two semesters! Students have the option of building deep expertise along the way by taking short, 1-Credit Hour courses that count toward advanced levels of EPIC-White Belt, EPIC-Green Belt EPIC, or EPIC-Black Belt. Advanced belts reflect your pursuit of deep expertise.

Program Advantages
- No prerequisites or general education requirements
- Core EPIC certificate achievable in two semesters
- Core courses are listed as 16 weeks, but offer the option to complete early
- 3-Credit Hours elective courses offered in 16-week tracks
- 1-Credit Hour elective courses contain fifteen contact hours of various track lengths
- Students can take fun, engaging 1-Credit Hour courses that count toward a concentration or belt color at any point in the certificate: before, during, and even after graduation.
Program Tracks
- EPIC-Core Certificate – Three (3-Credit Hours) courses taken in sequence: Fall/1st 8 weeks, Fall/2nd 8 weeks, & Spring/1st 8 weeks. Core courses are listed as 16 weeks, but offer the option to complete early for rapid sequencing by prior arrangement with the professor
- After the third core course, complete in The Faulkner Challenge for $10,000 in March
- EPIC-White Belt – Three core courses + three hours of electives
- EPIC-Green Belt – Three core courses + six hours of electives
- EPIC-Black Belt - Three core courses + nine hours of electives (18 hours also = Concentration/Minor)
Certificate Requirements
There are three specific core courses taken in sequence to earn the EPIC core certificate; each course is 8 weeks.
EPIC Core Courses: Required for Entrepreneurship Certificate
- ENTR 301: Introduction to Entrepreneurship (3-Credit Hours)
- ENTR 350: Opportunity Development and Creativity (3-Credit Hours)
- ENTR 605: New Venture Creation (3-Credit Hours)
These specialized EPIC courses can be taken at any point in the process. They count as hours toward earning the advanced belt levels and the 18-hour concentration (minor).

- GBUS 673: Experiential IDEAtion (1-Credit Hour)
- GBUS 673: Human-Centered Sustainable Design (1-Credit Hour)
- GBUS 673: Sustainability-Oriented Innovation (1-Credit Hour)
- GBUS 673: Entrepreneurial Experience for Hansen Hall residents only (1-Credit Hour)
- GBUS 673: Kansas Start-Up Pitch Prep (1-Credit Hour) - fall only
- GBUS 673: Faulkner Challenge Business Plan Competition Prep (1-Credit Hour) - spring only
