Getting the word out about financial assistance is important.The FHSU Financial Assistance Office, conducts many workshops on campus and in the community on a variety of aid topics throughout the year. The presentations offered vary and change as the award year progresses so check back here to find new presentations and materials.

Information for filling out your 2025-2026 FAFSA!
The presentation is directed to high school seniors and their parents. It will be delayed this year due to the changes in the FAFSA application. Stay tuned for updates.

Where do I go to Apply for FAFSA?
You will need to go to studentaid.gov
Can I qualify as an independent student?
If you cannot answer yes to any of the following questions you cannot be deemed independent:
- Were you born before January 1, 2001?
- As of today are you married?
- At the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, will you be working on a master’s or doctorate program?
- Are you currently serving active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purpose other than training?
- Are you a Veteran of the U.S. armed forces?
- Do you have dependents who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now through June 30, 2025?
- Do you have or will you have children who will be receiving more than half of their support from you between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025?
- At any time after you turned 13, were both your parents deceased, were you in foster care or were you a dependent or ward of the court?
- Has it been decided by a court in your state of legal residence that you are an emancipated minor or that someone other than your parent or stepparent has legal guardianship of you? (You also should answer “Yes” if you are now an adult but were in legal guardianship or were an emancipated minor immediately before you reached the age of being an adult in your state. Answer “No” if the court papers say “custody” rather than “guardianship.”) Y
- At any time on or after July 1, 2023, were you determined to be an unaccompanied youth who was homeless or were self-supporting and at risk of being homeless, as determined by (a) your high school or district homeless liaison, (b) the director of an emergency shelter or transitional housing program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or (c) the director of a runaway or homeless youth basic center or transitional living program?
When does the FAFSA application open every year?
October 1st normally, but for the 25-26 school year it opens December 1st.
