Volga German Society's Oktoberfest

The Volga German Society celebrated the 46th year of Oktoberfest in the Hays community on September 28. The theme continues to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Catherine the Great's Manifesto, inviting Germans to move to Russia, and who would later become known as Volga Germans.

The festival includes various activities and booths that provide food, crafts, beer and musical entertainment. Each year, the festival takes place at Municipal Park, 100 Main St, in Hays. Oktoberfest serves as a fundraising opportunity for local non-profit organizations. All vendors are encouraged to emphasize German history, food, and heritage. Over 45 vendors host booths at the event each year.

A new addition to the schedule in 2018 was the German Market which took place prior to the opening ceremony of Oktoberfest. The German Market is like a Farmer's Market, but with a German flare, and is set up on Main Street across from Municipal Park. Groups sold breakfast items (hot and cold) for early risers and overall, the event was a huge success in it's inagural year.

Be on the lookout for infromation about next year's event!
