Biography:
Dr. Kunal Y. Sevak is an Associate Professor of Management in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship, specializing in the areas of strategic management, digital entrepreneurship and innovation, and business policy. He earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Management & Entrepreneurship, and an MBA from Auburn University, and holds Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degrees from Gujarat University, India. His research expertise includes strategic management, digital entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence innovation management, platform business models, and emerging technologies.
Since joining FHSU in 2016, Dr. Sevak has played a leading role in advancing entrepreneurship education through curriculum development, experiential learning, and innovative course design. He helped pioneer the university’s Entrepreneurship Concentration, developed multiple entrepreneurship courses, and integrated hands-on projects and digital product development into the classroom. He has been a recipient of the college's Faculty of the Year Award as well as a nominee for the university-wide Faculty of the Year Award for Research.
Dr. Sevak’s research explores digital platforms, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), entrepreneurial innovation, and social enterprises. His scholarly work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Internet and Digital Economics, Journal of Digital Economy, Research and Practice in Technology Enhanced Learning, and Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics. His research has been presented at prestigious conferences including the Academy of Management (AOM), the U.S. Association of Small Business & Entrepreneurship (USASBE), the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), and the European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In 2025, his research on social entrepreneurship and grand challenges received the Best Paper Award at the ICSB World Congress.
Beyond the university, Dr. Sevak contributes to community and economic development across Kansas. He has consulted with small businesses and nonprofit organizations through the Management Development Center and prepared a comprehensive five-year strategic plan for the Downtown Hays Development Corporation based on extensive stakeholder interviews and community research. He has also delivered professional development presentations for business leaders and entrepreneurs in partnership with the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. At FHSU, he contributes through departmental, collegiate, and university service, leading the efforts in curriculum assessment and faculty governance and development. His mission is to bridge academic research with practical applications, helping students and organizations navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of digital strategy, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies.
