Biography:
Dr. Gregory Nelson earned a PhD from Indiana University and an MBA from the Indiana Institute of Technology. Dr. Nelson is also a SHRM–Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). At FHSU, he teaches upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in operations management, project management, and human resource management. He also serves as the Faculty Advisor to the award-winning FHSU SHRM Student Chapter. Before joining FHSU, Dr. Nelson established a distinguished career in the energy and water resource industries. Early in his career, he founded and led a company that developed and deployed innovative water resource management strategies and technologies for Fortune 500 companies and public municipalities. Later, at Chevron North America Exploration & Production, he matured and helped monetize a portfolio of Gulf of Mexico exploration opportunities with a net present value exceeding $1 billion. During his discretionary time at Chevron, Dr. Nelson also served as an enterprise collegiate recruiter, an intern mentor, and a software-systems deployment champion. Since 2016, Dr. Nelson has actively mentored HR students through the national SHRM Collegiate Advisor Program and as a SHRM Volunteer Leader. He also teaches SHRM Certification Preparation courses through FHSU's Department of Management and the Professional and Continuing Education program. His current research focuses on the strategic integration of AI into workplace practices and workflows.
