FHSU to hold banquet to raise funds for Swipe Out Hunger
02/28/12
HAYS,Kan. -- To raise money for the October 2012 Swipe Out Hunger event, the Fort Hays State University Global Leadership Project will host a Hunger Awareness Banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 2, at the Robbins Center on the FHSU campus.
Diners will draw cards for their meals. The meal choices are based on three different income levels, and people will be seated accordingly. The low-income meal will be a Numana meal, four basic ingredients, rice, soy, beans, and chicken flavoring. Middle-income diners will eat pizza, and the high-income meal will be a three-course dinner provided by Chart wells. A silent auction will be conducted during the banquet.
Jay Lewis, Numana's partnership developer, will speak about Numana's history and the benefits of hosting a Numana food packaging event. Numana is a non-profit organization in El Dorado that raises awareness about starvation around the world.
Swipe Out Hunger, a statewide food packaging event, is sponsored by Numana. All proceeds go towards shipping food in bulk to the Horn of Africa. Swipe Out Hunger is during the month of October, when volunteers donate and package food.
"In2011 FHSU packaged 21,987 meals for the Horn of Africa," said Kelly Nuckolls, Global Leadership Project student coordinator. "FHSU has a goal of packaging 100,000 meals this October."
The minimum donations recommended at the door is $5. To reserve a seat or to donate to FHSU's Swipe Out Hunger 2012, contact Nuckolls at 785-628-5399 orglp@fhsu.edu.
