Three major music events coming to FHSU in March

HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University's Concert Choir and Fort Hays Singers, and Wind Ensembleand the Symphonic Winds and Encore Series performer, Jim Brickman, will come to the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center in March.
The Concert Choir and the Fort Hays Singers, directed by Dr. Terry Crull, assistant professor, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6. The choir will perform seven poems by Robert Frost, including "Road Not Taken" and"Telephone." These seven poems were set to music by composer Randall Thompson. The Fort Hays Singers will perform a variety of six pieces, including three jazz songs. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students 12 and under, and free for FHSU students with valid student ID
"This concertisn't very long but very beautiful and interesting and should be enjoyed,"said Crull. "The focus this year is text, putting text with music that can be easily sung."
Jim Brickman, singer and pianist, will perform as part of the Encore Series , at7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10. Brickman has two Grammy nominations, six gold and platinum albums and 30 charted adult radio hits, including"Valentine," "The Gift," and "Love of my Life."Reserved seating tickets are $30 for the public, $28 for senior citizens and children under the age of 18, and $21 for FHSU students with valid student ID.Unreserved seating is $26, $24 and $17, respectively.
The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15. The Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Jeff Jordan, associate professor, will perform five pieces: "Soundings" by Cindy McTee; "Toccata Marziale" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; "Lincolnshire Posy" by Percy Grainger;"Oracle" by Eric Rath; and "Noisy Wheels of Joy" by Eric Whitacre.
"There are just under 60 students in the Wind Ensemble," said Jordan. "The inspiration for the concert is to provide a roller coaster ride for theaudience."
The Symphonic Winds,directed by Lane Weaver, instructor, will perform three pieces: "Fanfare Variants" by Dennis Griffin; "Emblems" by Aaron Copland; and"Scooting' on Hardrock" by David Holsinger.
"There are close to 90 students in Symphonic Winds," said Weaver. "We always strive to present a varied program that musically engages, intrigues and entertains our audience."
Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students 12 and under, and free for FHSU students with valid student ID.
