The Science Café will celebrate its 50th meeting at Fort Hays State University with science journalist Chris Mooney, who will present "The Science of Why We Don't Believe in Science" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in the Robbins Center on the FHSU campus.

The Science Café is an international program designed to provide lively conversation and a free flow of information about a certain topic with an expert. Topics of discussion can range from the Large Hadron Collider to the migratory patterns of Kansas birds.

The latest topic is on denialism, defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as not acknowledging the truth of a concept or proposition that is supported by the majority of scientific or historical evidence. Mooney will present his major finding from his last three years of reporting on the role of psychological factors in promoting science denial, focusing on the differences in personality traits across the left-right political divide and on how information is processed on each side.

All events are free and open to the public. The programs are sponsored by the FHSU Science and Mathematics Education Institute.
