Carrol Haggard presents paper on case studies at national social sciences convention

Dr. Carrol R. Haggard, associate professor of communication studies at Fort Hays State University, presented "Using Case Studies to Teach Critical Thinking in the Social Sciences" at the recent National Social Sciences Association convention in Las Vegas.
Haggard has written numerous case studies and uses them in classes. Case studies are a form of active learning, which get students involved in the learning process and promotes the development of critical thinking skills. The paper provided the rationale for using case studies to promote critical thinking in social science classes, suggestions for locating cases and criteria for selecting cases for classroom use.
