Honoring a legend: John C. Thorns Jr. Memorial Exhibition opens at FHSU
05/19/15
The John C. Thorns Jr. Memorial Art Exhibition will open with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, in the Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art, Rarick Hall, room 102.
The exhibition contains more than 70 pieces of mixed media paintings. The artwork is two dimensional, with attached images to create a collage effect.
Thorns, who passed away on July 15, 2014, was a supporter of the university and the art program.
"This exhibit is in remembrance of John Thorns, a legendary faculty member," said Lee Powers, chair of the Department of Art and Design. "He led the department to becoming a major part of the university."
Thorns was also involved in the community of Hays, acting as director of the Hadley Foundation Art Collection at Hays Medical Center. Joel Moss, for whom the gallery is also named, was an inspiration to Thorns, and both were former department chairs.
The exhibition will be on display through June 5.
