Fort Hays State University track and field athletes are ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division II, including two in one event -- the women's javelin throw.
Estefania Lopez, a junior from Valencia, Spain, has a nation-best throw of 169 feet, 7 inches, which broke the school record, while Bennington sophomore Madison Wolf has the fourth-best throw at 160-3. The Tigers actually have three in the top 15 of that event as Ellis sophomore Megan Honas has thrown 144-7.
Also breaking school records this spring were two seniors on the men's team -- Brady Tien and Cory Keehn.
Tien, a Prairie View senior, cleared 17 feet even in the men's pole vault to break the 34-year-old record of 16-10. In becoming the only FHSU pole vault to ever clear 17-0, Tien moved up to a tie for third on this year's NCAA II list.
Keehn, a senior from Soldier, set a new school mark of 29 minutes, 44.68 seconds in the 10,000 meters and currently ranks seventh in NCAA II.
